There are two maps shown here. Both concentrate exclusively on the stretch of the Northern broads that offers the best sailing. To change from one to the other you move your mouse over and off the map picture.
Whilst it is possible to sail further, and many have done so, it becomes harder and harder. To go further up toward Wroxham needs patience and lots of wind as the river above Horning, and especially Salhouse Broad, is heavily tree lined.
To go down below Acle is really the start of a journey to the Southern Broads. The tidal stream here increases and you need careful planning, preparation and good weather to make the passage through Yarmouth without an engine. See below the maps for more information.

The older map is from about 1895 and was hand drawn. The section shown here is from a larger map that has been scanned and electronically treated to remove some of the ravages of age. In fairness, considering its age, the original was in fairly good shape.
The Norfolk Broads map of 1895 can be seen here. It is available for display in two forms, Northern Broads only or both the Northern and Southern Broads on one sheet.
The modern map, which is here, has been drawn using the old map as a guide. Modern roads replace the older ones, and the railway has long gone. A number of minor inconsistencies have been corrected and the information displayed has been simplified so that the items of interest to sailors are more readily seen. This map also shows the route sailed.
